You can travel from Langkawi to Thailand on the daily Satun Langkawi Ferry service.

There are a number of boats a day that connects Kuah Jetty on Langkawi Island, with Tammalang Pier (port) in Thailand, which is located around 8 kilometres away from Satun town centre.

The trip between Langkawi and Thailand by ferry takes just one hour 15 minutes on high-speed boats.

Tammalang Jetty is just one of a number of places where you can get a boat over to Pulau Langkawi, with more departures from Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah on mainland Malaysia, George Town in Penang or Koh Lipe in Thailand.

There are now 2 scheduled trips a day in either direction, but this number may be reduced during the month of Ramadan.

  • 5:15 pm (Malaysian time)

Ferry from Satun to Langkawi Malaysia

Departures times are at:

  • 9:00 am (Thai time)
  • 3:30 pm (Thai time)

Ticket Prices for the Satun Langkawi Ferry

Adult one-way fares are:

RM 35 or 350 THB

Child one-way fares are:

RM 28 or 280 THB

Infant fares are:

RM 12 or 120 THB

Return tickets cost double the above.

Cheaper ferry prices are available from the ports of Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah in Malaysia.

Tickets can't be bought online at the moment, so you have to buy them directly from the ticket offices at the jetties.


For onward travel from Satun to places like Hat Yai and Krabi, you best option is to take a songthaew to the bus station from the jetty (for around 30 Baht), or a motorbike taxi.

Otherwise, you will have to bargain hard with all the touts that wait for the ferry to arrive, to take you in an overpriced taxi and minivan.

From here you can walk into town to find accommodation or get a taxi out to one of the beaches, the most popular one being Pantai Cenang.

Other Boats between Langkawi and Thailand

Another option for travelling between Langkawi and Thailand is to catch a boat to the island of Koh Lipe.

These boats between Langkawi and Koh Lipe only operate during the high season of October to May.
