At the border crossing of Padang Besar station, you will have to take all your luggage off of the train to take it through customs checks and stamp your passport out of Thailand and into Malaysia.

There is a money changer at the station at the border who gives a good rate for you leftover Thai Baht.

Don't be tempted to change it up with anyone on the train.

They will show you a Thai newspaper with the exchange rate so you think you are getting a good deal.

You are not! You will lose around 10%. Thai banks give a terrible rate for exchanging Malaysian Ringgit.
