The Syok at Chulia Hostel Penang offers visitors to George Town an excellent location towards the end of Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia) on the corner with Leith Street and just a stones throw away from Penang Road, where you will find most of the pubs and bars, as well as dozens of places to eat and shop.
The main tourist attractions of the city can be easily reached by foot and are only around 10 minutes walk away from the property.
The Syok Hostel in Penang offers beds to accommodate up to 66 people in either a mixed dormitory (8 beds), female only dorm (14 beds) or private double bedded rooms.
All rooms and dorms are air-conditioned.
This hostel is aimed at the flash-packers with a little more money to spend, so it is not the cheapest hostel in town, but it is relatively new, with nice clean rooms and shared bathrooms as well as comfortable mattresses.
You will also be provided with free breakfast, free tea and coffee all day, fee WIFI, towels, blankets and toiletries.
There is also a nice common lounge area where you can watch the large screen TV or have a game of table football, darts or play a range of board games.
The Syok at Chulia Hostel is located at the western end of Chulia Street which has been the main backpacker area of George Town for many years, just above a Subway sandwich shop.
Along Chulia Street you will find all you need, with plenty of travellers style cafes, second hand book shops, moneychangers, travel agents and places to rent bicycles and motorbikes.
Walk just a few metres up the road and you come to Penang Road, which is the main hotel and nightlife area of the city. Here you will find plenty of pubs, nightclubs and restaurants as well as markets stalls and shops.
It is also close to the popular hawker food night market, the Red Garden, which is a few minutes walk away from the property, along Leith Street.
How to get there :
If you arrive by the Butterworth ferry, the entrance to Gat Lebuh Chulia is just on your left as you exit the ferry terminal. From here it should take around 15 minutes to walk.
Another option is to jump on the 101 bus which travels down Chulia Street or catch the "FreeCat" free bus that stops on Penang Road.
If you are flying to Penang Airport, you can catch a cheap RapidPenang bus from the airport that stops nearby.
