If you want to travel from Penang Sentral, Butterworth to Kuala Perlis Jetty to take the ferry over to Langkawi Island (Kuah) you can travel by either bus or you can take a cheap KTM Komuter Utara train to Arau railway station, then take a bus or taxi to the jetty from there.

Bus from Butterworth Penang Sentral to Kuala Perlis

There are a few bus companies that operate coaches from Penang Sentral Bus Terminal to Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal.

The bus trip to Kuala Perlis takes around two and a half hours and a ticket will cost between 16 to 18 RM.

These buses are not that frequent and very popular during busy times of the year so you will want to make sure you can get a seat before heading off to the bus station.

KTM Butterworth to Kuala Perlis by Train

Another way to get to the ferry jetty in Kuala Perlis is to take a cheap KTM Komuter train to Arau station.

Travelling this way can work out to be the cheapest way to travel if you take a bus from Arau to Kuala Perlis (costing around 15 RM in total) and quicker than taking a bus if you take a taxi from the station to the jetty.

Once you arrive at Arau Railway Station you will have a choice of how to get to the Jetty in Kuala Perlis.

The quickest but most expensive way is to take a taxi (25 - 30 RM), order up a slightly cheaper Grab car (both should take around 20 minutes to get you to the jetty).

Or you can take a very cheap local MyBas Perlis bus from the bus stop just outside the train station main entrance to Kangar Bus Terminal (Bukit Lagi), then change onto another MyBas bus from Kangar to Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal.

From the bus terminal, it is just a few minutes walk to the ferry terminal.

Taking the ferry from Kuala Perlis Jetty to Kuah Jetty on Langkawi Island is the shortest boat trip to the island (at one hour and 15 minutes) and the cheapest.
