Nearly all long-distance buses to Ipoh these days arrive at Amanjaya Bus Terminal.
The duration of the bus trip from Penang Sentral to Amanjaya is around two hours and a half hours.

To get from the bus station to the city centre you can take a cheap local MyBas bus from Amanjaya Bus Terminal to Medan Kidd Bus Station (located fairly close to the train station on the edge of the Old Town) or a taxi (RM 15 - 20).
Once you arrive at Medan Kidd bus terminal you can then easily walk into town to find accommodation or you can take another MyBas bus around the city as Medan Kidd is the main local bus transport hub for Ipoh.
