If you want to travel by train from KL Sentral (Kuala Lumpur) to Bukit Mertajam in Penang state, you have a choice of daily departures with both Gold and Platinum services operating on this route.
The trip to BM from KL takes around four hours and is much faster now the new Electric Train Services (ETS) have replaced the old diesel operated express trains.

EG 9322 (ETS Gold) Departs KL Sentral at 17:36 - Arrives at Bukit Mertajam at 21:52.
EP 9106 (ETS Platinum) Departs KL Sentral at 20:20 - Arrives at Bukit Mertajam at 00:33.
EG 9122 (ETS Gold) Departs KL Sentral at 22:30 - Arrives at Bukit Mertajam at 02:38.
The price of seats on the above service varies depending on the type (Gold or Platinum) of train you decide to take.
There are no different seat classes (ie 1st class, 2nd class or 3rd class) and all trains offer the same kind of carriages.
The Platinum Trains depart at the most convenient times and stop fewer times along the route.

The Gold Trains are cheaper and slightly slower, stopping a more of the smaller stations along the route.

Adult: 58 RM - Children: 33 RM
The new ETS services are a very popular way to travel around Peninsular Malaysia and this route is particularly popular, especially at the weekends and holidays when people head to Penang Island (via Butterworth) for a few days break from the city.
