Travelling by the new high-speed train (Electric Train Services - ETS) from Batu Gajah to Penang island (George Town) is a fast and cost effective way to travel.

There are a number of both the cheaper Gold services and the more expensive Platinum services on this route between KL and Butterworth Railway Station on the mainland.

Once you arrive at Butterworth Station, it is just a short 15 minute ferry ride over the the island and the old heritage city of Georgetown.

EP 9176 (ETS Platinum) Departs Batu Gajah at 15:52 - Arrives in Butterworth at 17:49.

It is best to take the earlier trains as the ferry and buses over to the island stop running around midnight, so you would then have to take a much more expensive taxi over the bridge!
