Travel by KTM Komuter train in Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Perak states in the north-west of Malaysia is a cheap and convenient way to get around, with Bukit Mertajam Railway Station (BM) acting as the interchange station for the two routes on the Komuter Utara Lines (Northern Commuter Lines).

Booking Komuter Train Tickets from Bukit Mertajam

Komuter train tickets are sold on the day of travel and there is no advance booking available or necessary.

Seating is on a first-come-first-served basis.

If you are travelling south into Perak, most of the services start from BM so getting a seat is usually fairly easy.

If travelling north on the Padang Besar route, all of these trains originate from Butterworth, so there will usually be plenty of passengers on the train already!
