Travel on the ETS Train from Arau to KL Sentral is the easiest and quickest way to travel from Langkawi Island to Kuala Lumpur overland, as the new fast Electric Train Services speed their way to the capital at 140 kilometres an hour.
All the following ETS Trains operate daily - if you wish to disembark at the old railway station in Kuala Lumpur, you will arrive there just five minutes before the time shown below.
The duration of the journey is a little under five and a half hours for the fastest services.
Trains are operated by KTM Berhad - Keretapi Tanah Melayu.
New Arau to KL Sentral ETS Train Timetable (Jadual Perjalanan) for 2020:
EG 9221: (ETS Gold Service) Departs Arau at 07:24 - Arrives KL Sentral at 12:55.
EP 9201: (ETS Platinum Service) Departs Arau at 09:58 - Arrives KL Sentral at 15:13.
EP 9203: (ETS Platinum Service) Departs Arau at 14:03 - Arrives KL Sentral at 19:20.
EP 9275: (ETS Platinum Service) Departs Arau at 15.58 - Arrives KL Sentral at 21:26 (This new train includes a Business Class carriage).
EG 9425: (ETS Gold Service) Departs Arau at 16:13 - Arrives KL Sentral at 21:49.
EP 9205: (ETS Platinum Service) Departs Arau at 17:08 - Arrives KL Sentral at 22:30.
Fares for these services depend on the type of train, Gold or Platinum.
All seats on these services are all the same class (ie there is no 3rd, 2nd or 1st class) for the older ETS trains.
However, the new ETS2 trains that are being put online operate with a Business Class coach.

The prices shown above will also vary depending on the new KTM Flexi Fare rules which are quite complicated.
The main one is the time you book your tickets:
If you book over 30 days in advance you will get a small discount.
If you book 6 days or less in advance you will pay a little more.

Booking for these trains is highly advisable as they can often be full, especially during school and public holidays.
