Taking the fast ETS Train from KL Sentral to Arau (keretapi laju) in the state of Perlis is a good and fast way to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi, as the railway station in Arau is the nearest station to the ferry jetty at Kuala Perlis, where you can catch regular boats over to the island.
New KL to Arau ETS Timetable (jadual) for 2020:

If you are travelling from KL to Langkawi by train, you will have to get from Arau KTM train station to Kuala Perlis Jetty.
You can take a taxi to the ferry terminal at Kuala Perlis (jeti) from Arau station.
A taxi to the jetty will cost you around 26 to 30 RM.
