If you want to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar as quickly as possible, the KTM ETS Train from KL Sentral to Alor Setar in Kedah is now the fastest way to go.
These new high speed trains can travel at speeds of 140 kilometres an hour, much quicker than a bus and taking half the time of the old diesel Intercity services that used o operate don this route.
Trains leave from the main station in Kuala Lumpur, KL Sentral, but you can also catch these services from the old station (Terminal KTM), just a five minutes later than the times shown below.

EP 9202 (ETS Platinum Service): Departs KL Sentral at 06:45 - Arrives at Alor Setar at 11:23.
EG 9420 (ETS Gold Service): Departs KL Sentral at 09:44 - Arrives at Alor Setar at 14:22.
EP 9204 (ETS Platinum Service): Departs KL Sentral at 11:40 - Arrives at Alor Setar at 16:18.
EG 9422 (ETS Gold Service): Departs KL Sentral at 18:17 - Arrives at Alor Setar at 00:03.
EG 9424 (ETS Gold Service): Departs KL Sentral at 23:27 - Arrives at Alor Setar at 04:14.

ETS Platinum Services cost : Adult 93 RM - Child 51 RM

If you are using this train to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi, you will have to take a taxi to the jetty from the station, or walk into the city centre and catch a cheap bus to the jetty.
