If you want to travel on the KTM Kuala Lumpur Johor Bahru Train services, currently you will have to take two services.
One between KL and Gemas or Tampin.
One between Tampin or Gemas to JB Sentral.
The quickest way to travel from KL to JB by train is to first take one of the new, fast, Electric Train Services (ETS) from KL Sentral Railway Station to Gemas.
At Gemas the new dual tracks end, so you will have to take a connecting Shuttle train for the last leg down to Johor state, terminating at JB Sentral Station.
Please note: from the 18th of December 2017, two of the Shuttle services now originate from Tampin station, so you could take the ETS from KL to Tampin rather than from Gemas.
It is also possible to travel from KL Sentral to Tampin by KTM Komuter services.
Travelling in the other direction from JB to KL by train, you will first have to take the Shuttle services to Gemas or Tampin, then connect to the ETS services from either of those stations.
For this trip, you will need to buy two separate tickets.
Taking the trains via Gemas will cost:
Tickets for the Shuttle trains between Gemas and JB Sentral cost:
Tickets for the ETS train between Gemas and KL Sentral cost:
These services are often very busy, so making an advance booking is essential.
Train tickets in Malaysia go on sale as and when KTM release them - This could mean a few months in advance or just a few weeks.
Advance tickets for any of the ETS or Shuttle trains can be bought at any railway station within Peninsular Malaysia or online directly from the KTM Website, or through an online ticketing agent.
