Sungai Petani KTM Railway Station (Stesen Keretapi Sg. Petani) is located right in the heart of the town centre and easy to walk to if you are planning on staying in any of the hotels around the town centre (just look for the clock tower and the pedestrian bridge over to the railway station is close by).
If you wish to travel further north from SP to Thailand by train, you have to disembark at the Padang Besar border railway station (located just inside Malaysia), then you can either transfer to a State Railway of Thailand train or walk across the main road crossing border located next to the train station.

KTM Komuter Utara dari Sungai Petani ke Perak
You can also travel further south using the KTM Komuter Utara train route (northern commuter line) by changing trains at KTM Bukit Mertajam, where another Komuter route takes you south into the state of Perak, terminating one station past Taiping at Padang Rengas.
To get to train stations in the state of Perak from Sungai Petani, you will first have to take a KTM Komuter train from SP to BM (Bukit Mertajam).
From BM, you can then connect to the following Komuter train stations:
